in the wee hours
before sunrise —
skin on skin
spooning, breathing
we are stirring —
first me, then her
under a blanket
of bones
on a mossy, solitary
riverbank, not far
beyond the city walls
the night of inky blue
moon risen & gone
— in the frosty air
she and I clinging
to one another, close
drifting through
the fleeting magic
enjoining dreaming
with this new day
telling secrets
in hushed tones
being entwined
& silly, in love
black waters bubbling,
splashing over rounded
stone — in due time
behold! the dawn chorus
